Brian Berliner is an entrepreneur, investor, Open Source pioneer and the creator of the Concurrent Versions System (CVS), the most popular source code control product in the world. Brian is currently an early stage investor and Executive Coach. Since 1996, Berliner established three companies with top-tier venture backing including Cassatt Corporation, which builds IT automation and virtualization management software for large enterprises; Allocity (acquired by EMC), which built storage resource management software for Microsoft Exchange servers; and ChannelPoint, which built e-business application software for the insurance and financial services industry before filing for IPO in March 2000. Previously, Berliner was a senior staff engineer for Sun Microsystems and co-founded Sun’s Solaris development site in Colorado. In addition, he was part of the team that built vector-processing supercomputers and took Convex Computer Corporation public in 1986. Berliner holds 10 software patents for network caching file systems and 1 patent for Utility Computing is pending. Brian earned a BS in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1985.
